“In the mountains of Nampong, there lived a young woman named Sophen who lived with her old, morbid parents. She was the only child of her parents, so it was her duty to look after them as they were too old to take care of themselves.
In order to feed them, she worked hard, in fact, she became the bread winner of her family at a young age. Every morning she had to travel 2 kms away from her village in order to collect water from the river. In those days, there were no proper roads or vehicles to travel from one place to another. So, she had to walk which was exhausting and arduous but she never complained. One day, as usual ,she woke up, took her bamboo water-container, and went to collect water from the river not realizing it was midnight, and not morning. As soon as she reached the river, an unknown person appeared out of nowhere and asked her, “What are you doing here? Don’t you know it’s midnight? Or you thought day was night and night was day?” Sophen was dumbstruck after hearing that from an unknown person. The unknown person was the water Spirit who was communicating with her , without uttering a word Sophen rushed towards home, terrified and scared. Upon reaching home, she felt strange but didn’t give much attention, As she had to cook for her parents. however, After that incident, she fell ill and no medicine could cure her she somehow realized that she was not going to survive so she told her parents about it. Unfortunately, she succumbed and passed away it was a tragic end to Sophen’s story leaving her parents devastated and the village mourning the loss of such a hard working and caring soul.The mysterious circumstances surrounding Sophen’s encounter with the water spirit have left a lasting impression on the community, shaping the understanding of the events that led to her untimely demise.
