Title: The story of Raünthüvüpa and Lürathüvüpa

Language: Pochury

Description: This narrative revolves around the village chief of Leruri and his unique bond with the tiger, the sovereign of the forest. It also explores the origins of Leruri village.

In ancient times, a cycle of violence existed between humans and tigers, with each posing a threat to the other. Among the villagers was a hero named Ralimpong, whose father, Dvüdey, held the title of village king. One fateful day, when Ralimpong was merely an infant, his parents left him alone in their field hut while they tended to their work. Upon their return, they were horrified to see a tiger emerging from the hut, its lips glistening. They cried out in despair, believing their child had been devoured. However, to their astonishment, they found Ralimpong peacefully sleeping, having been gently licked by the tiger.

In disbelief, they returned to the village that night, where they were visited in their dreams by the tiger, who delivered a profound message. The tiger expressed a desire to be considered family and requested that the child be named Ralimpong. From that moment forward, a pact was formed: the chief’s clan, known as Thüvüri,and the tigers would coexist peacefully, refraining from hunting one another. It is said that whenever a member of the chief’s clan passes away, the tigers can be heard mourning nearby.
