Title: The Story of Asa and Miserung
Language: Zeme

Tribe: Zeliang
Description: This is a folktale of two village lads from the Zeliang Community, Asa and Miserung. Asa, the clever one, met Miserung, the less intelligent, as they both roamed near the river seeking food. Asa asked Miserung where he was coming from, and Miserung’s response was somewhat nonsensical. They agreed that Asa would be the elder, and Miserung the younger, as Asa saw Miserung first. They shared what they had seen on their journeys, with Miserung claiming he saw many pythons. They decided to catch fish in the river where Asa had come from. They swam, depleted the river of fish, roasted and feasted. The following day, Asa suggested revisiting the place where Miserung had mentioned the pythons. They attempted to lure the pythons out with noise, resulting in them killing a baby python and a larger one. The king python appeared, angered, and was captured. However, he offered Hega in exchange for his life, promising that it would prevent them from ever going hungry again. They accepted the offer, released the king python, and returned home content and well-fed.
