Title: Tüthi (The birth of Sky Worship)

Language: Chakhesang

Description: This is the story of how people first began worshipping the skies. Long ago, there lived a brother and sister named Nakrü and Nahü.
Misfortune struck them early, as both their parents passed away when they were still very young. With no one to care for them, they wandered from house to house, begging for food.
Nakü, being the elder brother, would beg not for himself but for his sister, who had grown weak from hunger. In return for offerings, he would tell people they could strike his forehead with their knuckles if they wished. The cruel-hearted truly hit him, while the kind and compassionate instead gave them food and drink without harm.
Their lives were filled with hardship and shame until one day, a Satan cast down a long rope from the heavens and commanded them to climb. They obeyed, and the rope pulled them up into the sky.
Not long after, fierce winds, hail, and rain swept across the land. The harvest of those who had mistreated Nakü and Nahü was completely destroyed, while the crops of those who had shown kindness remained untouched.
Witnessing this, the elders understood that the skies were angry over the suffering of the siblings. From then on, they declared that the people must worship the sky, so that rain and wind would not bring destruction upon them.
