Folk Tale . 4:08

Title: The Origin of the bird Kivigho ( Aghaho).

Language: Sumi

Description:

In a village, two lovers, Kivigho and Khuali, were tragically separated when Khuali was married off to another man. In a profound display of his love and determination, Kivigho carried burning charcoal to Khuali’s village, where they had planned to elope. However, Kivigho became entangled in a fruit tree and was transformed into a hornbill, known as Aghaho.

Khuali, devastated, returned to her husband’s village, her heart filled with sorrow. Some time later, she heard rumors of a rare bird flying near her village. Upon seeing the bird, a feather from it landed gently on her chest. That night, Kivigho appeared to her in a dream, revealing that the feather was a symbol of his eternal love for her.

To this day, the hornbill’s feather is an integral part of traditional headgear worn during major festivals in Nagaland, symbolizing the enduring love of Kivigho and Khuali. The story imparts the lesson that true love transcends physical separation and even death, with the hornbill’s feather serving as a cherished emblem of this everlasting bond, passed down through generations.
