Child Birth System of Garo Community

Folk Tale . 4:27

Title: Child Birth System of Garo Community
Language: Garo
Description: An experienced elderly women known as kamals take on the role of midwives, guiding mothers through childbirth without medical intervention.
Remarkably, they use sharpened bamboo, carefully crafted by cutting and honing the plant’s edges, to assist in the delivery process. A trio of kamals works together to support the mother, employing their collective wisdom to ensure a safe and successful birth.
Even in cases where the mother falls ill, the community relies on their ancestral knowledge, choosing to care for her at home for up to three days before considering hospitalization. This extraordinary approach highlights the strength of their cultural heritage and the trust they have in their time-tested traditions.
