Title: Creation of Sumi Ighanumi Village

Language: Lotha

Description:

In the ancient times, our ancestors did not have written stories; instead, they preserved and shared their tales through oral tradition. This is the story of how a village of present day “Ighanumi” was created.
From the beginning, our fore-fathers has passed on the story till today that Ashu Igha’s father HOLO and his mother HILI were also from the Burma lineage. There were six brothers where Ashu Igha was the third eldest, when he heard about his brothers leaving home in order to make a new living, he also asked his father’s permission and his father blessed him with AGHATU (fetish stone) and AWUDU (rooster). The fetish stone was strapped by AYEPHANI (wild leave) and he was advice to continue his journey until the strap is broken and the rooster crowed. The present day IGHANUMI VILLAGE is believed to be the place where the strap was broken and the rooster crowed. Ashu Igha’s father also told him that once the village is formed, tell your descendants to sing ISHE-HOLO-HOIYE-HILI-HIYELO to pass down from generation to generation in memory of us, and so till today HOLO-HOIYE-HIYE is being used in almost every sumi’s folk songs.
